Spade drills and spade drill bodies for engineers producing larger-diameter holes on machines where a single tool needs to cover several sizes. The page holds the drill bodies in both straight shank and taper shank forms, across a range of lengths, together with HSS T15 spade drill inserts.

The bodies share the same design points: body clearance to avoid clogging and workpiece contact, chip evacuation, and nickel plating for added wear resistance. Because they take replaceable inserts, one body will produce multiple diameters. Straight shank bodies run through stub length (8-1150-FM), short (8-2150-FM), intermediate (8-3250-FM), standard (8-4250-FM), extended (8-5250-FM) and extra long (8-5150-FM). Taper shank bodies cover short (8-2150-M), intermediate (8-3250-M) and standard (8-4250-M) lengths.

The spade drill inserts, series 808327, are HSS T15 with a TiALN coating, intended for high nickel alloys and materials over 280 Brinell. They are replaced on the machine, which keeps set-up time down, and are available in metric and imperial sizes.

Choose the shank to suit your spindle or holder, then the length to match the depth and reach the job needs, working up from stub to extra long only as far as the hole requires. Insert selection follows the material: the T15 TiALN grade is specified for the harder, higher-nickel end of the work.
